LEIF at Bielefeld

Low Energy Ion beam Facility

at the

University of Bielefeld

The aim of the cooperation Network LEIF

It is the aim of this EU network (HPRI-CT-1999-40012) to improve the cooperation between different existing low energy ion beam facilities, to coordinate their physical programme and to make technological developments, performed at different sites on similar or complementary projects more efficient.

The participants of LEIF

The network  includes 12 participants, out of which 8 are operators of research infrastructures situated in 7 different European countries. The 8 infrastructures are centres of excellence concerned with the production and the distribution of low energy, high-quality ion beams to local and visiting groups. In addition, 4 members participate as user representatives. These 4 user representatives are experts in different fields of ion/matter interaction such as ion collisions with electrons, atoms, molecules, clusters and surfaces. In addition, they have an extensiv experience as users of various ion beam facilities and are therefore highly qualified to formulate the user needs and their interests.

LEIF Project 4 and the University of Bielefeld

Crucial for collision experiments with low energy ion beams are the detector systems needed for the observation of the involved reaction products.  The aim of the LEIF Project 4: "Common tools and multi-coincidence detectors" is to coordinate detector developments and to simplify the access to the still scattered information about performance and possible applications of the existing techniques.
